Coyote Hunt

Coyote Hunt 2012

The 3rd Annual KSC Coyote Hunt will be held, January 6th, 7th, 8th and February 3rd, 4th, 5th, 2012. $500 First Prize - $300 Second Prize - $200 Third Prize. Top prizes awarded to the hunters who enter the three heaviest coyotes during this 6 day hunt. (One top prize per person) $25 will be awarded for all other coyotes entered and not qualifying for one of the top prizes. $15 will also be awarded for any FOX or BOBCAT entered during the hunt.

Only legally hunted and trapped coyotes harvested during these 6days will be accepted at the predetermined weigh in times. EXCEPTION: Hunting with the aid of dogs will not be allowed this year. All coyotes will be scored according to their weight. This is a rain or shine area wide event designed to aid in reducing the ever growing predator population, in turn, reducing their impact upon livestock, the deer herd and family pets.

Weigh in will be held at the Kinderhook Sportsman's Club located 376 Fowler Lake Road, Kinderhook, NY. The weigh in times are as follows: Friday and Saturday 4 pm to 6 pm, and on Sunday from 2 pm to 4 pm. Hot food and drinks will be available. Preliminary results will be announced at 4 pm on Sunday on the last weekend of the hunt.

Jim Sharpe models a handmade bear claw necklace that will be one of a large variety of great prizes available in the Coyote Hunt Sportsmen's Raffle!

Raffle winners will be drawn Sunday afternoon.

All members of a hunting party must be registered in the hunt. The Hunt Committee reserves the right to award the prizes for 72 hours after the hunt ends to allow for the review of the animals (possible autopsy) and verification of rules compliance. With payment of entry fee the hunter agrees that the decision of the Hunt Committee is final. Any infractions will result in the immediate disqualification of the hunter(s) involved, prize money and entry fees will be forfeited.

The first weekend is history but the second weekend February 3rd, 4th, & 5th is coming and the raffle prizes won't be awarded till the 5th either. So, Register today if you already haven't, get your raffle tickets & stickers and join in on the fun. And hope we have some snow before February 1.

Fill out the registration form on page 2 (PLEASE PRINT LEGIBLY) and mail along with a check or money order made out to the Kinderhook Sportsman's Club.

All registration forms must be postmarked by January 31, 2012. Any returned checks will be subject to a 25 dollar fee. Annual Venison/Game Dinner

The January 4th Annual Venison/Game Dinner Meeting was well attended.

There were several types of chili, stew, meatballs, venison sausage and Curt's venison with mushrooms and gravey, salad, mac 'n cheese and desserts galore. The best part; it was all Deee-Licious!!

Thanks to all who pitched in and brought a dish to pass and made this a fine feast.

Rifle Range:

We have some issues that must be dealt with Immediately!

We have reports from members who were hunting and found bullets ricocheting overhead. This is not acceptable, period. It is also dangerous.

1. Shoot only at targets

2. No Reckless shooting

3. No Pistols on the Rifle Range

4. No large Caliber shooting at Spinning Targets

This is a safety issue. Failure to follow these rules will have impact on your continued membership in this organization.

Womens shooting league:

Saturday, November 12, 2011 the Kinderhook Sportsmen Club (KSC) hosted the Women's Shooting Sport League (WSSL) for a day outside the towering skyscrapers of Manhattan for a day under the towering pines of the KSC.

After an official welcoming and safety seminar by one of KSC founding fathers, Mr. Rodney Gage, the group was eager to get started. KSC Board member Rick Olivo worked with representatives of the WSSL in planning this event, and joined in the welcoming, and outlined the day's plans.

The ladies travel expense was underwritten by a grant from the Friends of NRA, as well as the shooting supplies at KSC.

19 guests were already on the ranges by late morning. Trap, skeet, and 22 rifle with reaction targets were the sports of the day. Expert safety and competence instruction was provided by KSC President Terry Toomey, and Vice-President Dave Newkirk, members Jim Sharp, Patsy Leader and Lance Fitzpatrick. A great lunch was prepared by member Debbie Singer with help from Mark Leggett.

By afternoon's twilight, our guests all expressed their gratitude for our hospitality, and started back to the Big Apple. Before they left, many were already asking what we could do "next time".  - Rick Olivo

Correspondence:

Conservation Council, NY Outdoor News ran an article about KSC member Bill Hollister winning the NYOSWA "Pass it on" Award. Bill also won Third place in photography with a picture of Terry teaching shotgun at a Hunter Ed. Course. The photo may ve viewed in the clubhouse. If anyone knows who the child is, Bill has a copy for him. Congratulations Bill!!

Scouts:

Cubs are doing a food collection program.Selling center pieces for Christmas $20 . Scouts -Wreaths $18.

Marian Steggman Fund:

Supported 350 familys in northern Columbia County last year. Club voted to donate $250 to the fund. It's a great program!

Building Expansion

Update: With the help of Pete Burke, Terry Toomey, and Dave Newkirk, Mike Ryan supervised the concrete work. The forms were donated by Cedar Flow construction thanks to Mike's affiliation with them. We did the footings two weeks ago and poured the 4 foot frost walls last Friday Nov.11th. Mike, Pete, and Terry stripped the forms on Sunday. Some of the trees were sent to the mill already and we have a few more to take down. We will probably fill the inside and put in the stone around the exterior of the foundation on Friday the 18th of Nov. and do some more tree work. If anyone wants to put in some hours, come on down.

Trap and Skeet Shooting is open to the public! So, be sure to tell all your Trap & Skeet Shootin' friends and tell 'em to pass the word.

The kitchen will now be open on Sunday mornings from 8 - 10 for a fresh homemade breakfast and coffee.

Also be sure to clean up your shell casings...Yes that means .22's too.

Failure to comply may result in you losing your Range Privileges. Also, please be sure to follow the rules and be respectful of your fellow members. Also when you come in to use the ranges leave the gate open. Thanks for your compliance!!!

Someone has been doing this on the Pistol Range. Pistol Range is for Pistols. When you shoot a with pistol at the silhouettes, that have been damaged by high powered rifles, the bullets often ricochet back at the shooter. This creates a dangerous, possibly life threatening situation for other members. So it's pretty plain and simple.

Don't place your membership in jeopardy!

When you’re shooting, wear eye and ear protection.

  • You only get two eyes (if you’re lucky), and it doesn't’t take much to lose one.
  • Hearing loss is 100% irreversible.  It is also 100% preventable by wearing proper ear protection.
  • In addition to wearing eye and ear protection while shooting, you should also do the same while at the club (and home) while operating weedwhacker, lawn mowers, chain saws, wood chippers, and all other kinds of power equipment that make a lot of noise and fling stuff at your face.  Don’t lose an eye or your hearing because you didn’t follow basic safety precaution

Your friend may also download the form, fill it out and submit to you with the application fee. You can then sign it and submit it at the next meeting.
