(Please Note: KSC Club Meetings are held the first Wednesday of every month at 7:30 p.m.

Coyote Hunt

The KSC 2010 Coyote hunt went very well with 127 registered hunters. A good time was had by all, except of course ol’ Wiley.  

Cotote Hunt 2010

20 coyotes and 3 bobcats were turned in over the three days of the hunt.

Some of the coyotes were hunted with distress calls and others were hunted with the use of hounds.  

The heaviest coyote and the winner of the 500 dollar First Prize was “Top Dog” Jim Sharpe with a coyote that weighed in at 49lb 10.75 ounces.

There was over 1400 dollars in Prize money awarded to the competitors.  The club also made a good profit to boot.  A successful raffle of prizes such as a Tree Stand and Gift Cards was also held. The Hunt Committee looks forward to next years hunt and has already begun work to plan an even bigger event.

Spring Clean-Up

KSC will be holding a Spring Clean-Up as soon as the weather breaks. We have a lot of work that needs to be accomplished and it will be a good chance for members to get in their hours. Keep a check on this page for the details, coming soon.


SPRING HAM SHOOT

KSC Spring Ham Shoot

The KSC Spring Ham Shoot will take place on Sunday March 21 beginning at 9:00 am.

We'll have Line & Trap Shoots a Sportsmen's Raffle and fresh home cooked Breakfast and Lunch will be available.

Bring the Family and win your Easter Ham!

Members who haven't picked up Shoot cards to sell should contact Dick Leggett at 392-2060 or pick one up at the arch 3 meeting.

Sell the shoot cards and tell all your friends and come on down for a great time on Sunday March 21 at 9:00!!


TRAP SHOOTING SUNDAY'S & WEDNESDAY'S!

Every Sunday Morning the birds start breakin' at 9:00.

Now KSC has both Trap and Skeet.

KSC is now the premiere Skeet & Trap shooting facility in Columbia County!!

Trap and Skeet Shooting is open to the public! So, be sure to tell all your Trap & Skeet Shootin' friends and tell 'em to pass the word.

The kitchen will now be open on Sunday mornings from 8 - 10 for a fresh homemade breakfast and coffee.

Whispering Pines

President Terry Toomey and Board member Rick Olivo recently purchased 250 white pines that will be planted on the property between the Trap Field and the Pond.

The planting will take place in the Spring with the help of the Boy Scouts and the 4-H.


Friends of NRA Columbia Greene 2009 Grant Program Update

The NRA Upstate NY Grant meeting was held Saturday in Vernon Center NY. I attended as delegate and Terry Toomey joined me to see what it is all about.

Great news is that we have come home PRELIMINARILY SPEAKING with more $$ again this year than we sent in for the second year in a row.

First, the statewide numbers:

Since the FNRA program started 17 years ago, Upstate NY has grossed over $10,000,000; netted over $4,000,000, and gave grant amounts of over $2,000,000.

By any measure, Upstate NY is within the top 5 nationally.

2009:

77 grants submitted same as last year.

Grant Requests for 2009 totaled $283,769

Budget for 2009 totaled $168,000

Now for our committee area grants:

1-Tri-Village- $2,755
2-Hudson F & G-$2,103
3-Philmont R & G- $2,103
4-Kinderhook Sportsmen-$2,103
5-Good Shephard-$1000

PRELIMINARY-Our local grants totaled $10,064 (about $2,500 more than Columbia-Greene contributed)

RANGES

Important Note:

Be sure to Sign-In in the new Kiosk just north of the Clubhouse
prior to using any of the ranges.

Failure to comply may result in you losing your Range Privileges. Also, please be sure to follow the rules and be respectful of your fellow members. Thanks for your compliance!!!

DO NOT shoot silhouettes with High Powered Rifles!!! Period! Is there any part of this you don't understand? If so, bring your questions to the Aug 5 meeting.

When you’re shooting, PLEASE wear eye and ear protection.

  • You only get two eyes (if you’re lucky), and it doesn’t take much to lose one.
  • Hearing loss is 100% irreversible.  It is also 100% preventable by wearing proper ear protection.
  • In addition to wearing eye and ear protection while shooting, you should also do the same while at the club (and home) while operating weed-wackers, lawn mowers, chainsaws, wood chippers, and all other kinds of power equipment that make a lot of noise and fling stuff at your face.  Don’t lose an eye or your hearing because you didn’t follow basic safety precaution
Archery Targets

Archery targets are out in the same locations as last year.  If you want to shoot your bow, have at it (don’t forget to sign in).

Rifle Range

We were looking at installing a 250 yard rifle range, but it isn’t feasible due to the amount of digging that would be required.  We’ll be looking at other solutions for a longer rifle range

Here is a buck that a hunter got in Wisconsin . He sent these pictures to a bunch of people to see what he could get and the owner of Cabela's paid him $13,000 for the head and hide. A calico buck, like the one below, is rarer then an albino.
